Fuel prices, why just the hauliers?

by doug1054 @ 2008-05-28 - 11:19:11

The sitaution regarding fuel prices is getting ridiculous, I live in Wales and many people had to buy houses in rural communities to try and get on the housing ladder as property prices were continually rising in major cities, thus requiring a long car trip to work, now with fuel prices going through the roof many people in rural communities are really suffering. I have every sympathy for the truckers, but to some extent they are able to pass on some of the increase in fuel, not so the ordinary consumer who are, like the hauliers seeing rises in mortgages, food, council tax, utilities and now the ridiculous rise in fuel prices.

I accept that fuel price rises are not entirely down to the government, but every time fuel rises so does the taxes that the government receive, truckers demonstrating is a good thing, but surely its time for the ordinary motorist to do the same and show the government that we will not be squeezed anymore.

In the UK the price of fuel is the highest in Europe, with speculation that the price of a litre could rise by an additional 20 - 30p a litre if oil prices reach $200 a barrel at suggested by the end of this year.

For some strange reason the great british public seem to just sit back and accept what is dumped on us, I cannot see the French putting up with the way the public are being treated in this country, we often forget that it is the government that is answerable to the public and sitting back and doing nothing essentially gives the government license to continue with their policies irrespective of the harm and hardship it may cause.

Isn't it time that the average motorist followed the example of the truckers and took to the roads in a day of protest?
